What is now Vinarosa Resort & Spa began long before its next chapter in Wine Country luxury. Set among rolling vineyards in Sonoma County, the land once flourished as a prune orchard before evolving into one of the region’s most beloved hospitality destinations. Over the decades, it became home to pioneering culinary experiences, celebrated vineyard traditions, and meaningful moments shared among guests and locals alike. Today, traces of that rich history remain woven throughout the property, from vineyard views and estate grounds to the enduring spirit of hospitality that continues to shape the Vinarosa experience.
Chef John Ash opened John Ash & Co in 1980 and became widely recognized as the Father of wine country Cuisine. He helped to pioneer locally sourced foods paired with intentional wines before farm-to-table was a movement.
Retired scientist and entrepreneur John Duffy transformed a prune orchard into vineyard land and developed Vintners Inn. Duffy’s goal was to create a destination property with a signature restaurant and brough John Ash to the new Inn. John Ash & Co was then relocated to Vinters Inn in 1988 and became one of the first vineyard view, fine dining experiences in Sonoma County. Vintners Inn started a 44-room inn with roughly 40 acres of vineyards and continued to develop and grow throughout the years.
Don and Rhonda Carano acquired the property and heavily invested in its evolution. Their ownership helped expand the resorts’ visibility and transform it into a luxury property.
In 2016, the property went through another transformation and added 34 guestrooms to the property for a total of 78 guestrooms and suites spread across five two story buildings.
During the property’s 35th anniversary celebration, the property evolved from the identity of Vintners Inn into Vintners Resort, reflecting the growth into a broader experience, with dining, spa, events, vineyards, and resort amenities. By this time, Vinters Resort had grown to 92 acres of working vineyards, 78 guestrooms and suites, farm-to-table dining, and a full spa and wellness sanctuary.
Jackson Family and Ensemble Investments acquired Vintners Resort. The sale included the iconic John Ash & Co and marked the major shift towards a luxury repositioning.
After more than $15 million in renovations and repositioning, the property officially emerged as Vinarosa Resort & Spa with a new identity inspired by viticulture, elevated wellness, and a more immersive luxury experience. The transformation marked a new chapter for the property, introducing refreshed guestrooms, redesigned gathering spaces, an enhanced resort pool experience, and expanded wellness programming, including the evolution of Vi La Vita Spa into The Spa at Vinarosa. Culinary offerings were also elevated with the transition of John Ash & Co. to John Ash, alongside landscape enhancements inspired by the spirit and heritage of Sonoma Wine Country.
